A Bathing Ape have their origin in Harajuku, a district in Shibuya, Tokyo – the birthplace of Japanese streetwear. After working at Popeye Magazine, which mainly covers fashion, founder Nigo opened his store 'Nowhere' together with Jun Tatakashi (Undercover, anybody?) and shortly after he dropped his own brand A Bathing Ape, or BAPE for short. But what does the name stand for? A Bathing Ape refers to the Japanese phrase 'A bathing ape in lukewarm water' and describes someone who indulges with full satisfaction and without restraint.
